On Wednesday, February 27, 2008 Reichert Inc. received 510k clearance from the US Food & Drug Administration to market the Reichert-Optopol SOCT Copernicus in the USA.
SOCT Copernicus was the first commercially available SOCT ophthalmic imaging device in the world market and it is now available for purchase in the USA, exclusively from Reichert.
Copernicus is used for in-vivo imaging and measurement of the retina. This advanced diagnostic tool utilizes spectral tomography to rapidly create high-resolution images of retinal structures. These highly detailed three dimensional images enhance a physician’s ability to diagnose and monitor retinal diseases and perform pre and post procedural assessments of patients.
According to Tim Levindofske, President and CEO of Reichert Inc., “The introduction of SOCT Copernicus is a continuation of our growth strategy of adding high technology, diagnostic instruments to our product portfolio. We believe that SOCT Copernicus will be very well received by US eye care physicians.”
Reichert is a world leader in diagnostic, refracting, and examining eyecare instruments. With a history dating back more than 100 years, Reichert is well known for the development of innovative ophthalmic instruments for the eye care professional.
